The Bonnie Prince Charlie

If you are disconcerted by the old-timey look of the marquis at the Prince Charles Cinema, rest assured that is intentional. Around since 1962, the embrace their heritage while at the same time never failing to upgrade what matters – seating and tech. They are able to screeen films in 2K, 4K and 35mm and 70mm.

And, yep, I attended the 70mm screening of 2001, probably the 5th or 6th time for me in that format, and I can honestly say I have never seen it looking or sounding better. And a special thrill to see it with a packed, respectfully quiet and awed audience. They are serious about the rules of film etiquette at the Prince Charles. They will boot your ass out if you misbehave.

I followed this up, same day, with a brilliant 4K restoration of Trainspotting. So, along with dining on the legendary roast duck at Four Seasons in nearby Chinatown I had, quoting Lou Reed from the Trainspotting soundtrack, The Perfect Day.

The Bonnie Prince Charlie is ranked 8th overall on this list.
